Black ice & heels

It’s never too late to be who you might have been.
–Mary Ann Evans (George Eliot)

Not much has been going on in my life lately. Just work, and in the past few days, it’s been kicking my butt! In an attempt to loosen up after a day of work, I’ve been hanging out with friends or watching movies, only to end up staying up late at night. And not only have I been going to bed late, but I don’t get to sleep until a long time later, because my mind, for some reason, is racing with thoughts. I can’t get my mind and body on the same page! Well, I finally got a good night’s sleep two nights ago, and had a nice day off yesterday… until I slipped on some ice and fell, putting all of my weight on my right arm. It wasn’t one of those instances where you laugh it off and keep going… it was really painful. And to make me feel worse, there was a middle-aged woman walking my way, and completely ignored me. Not even a, “are you okay?” I guess some people just don’t have any spirit, even during the holiday season! Anyway, I woke up this morning only being able to move my arm about three inches high before feeling any pain – and there’s definite bruising – so I’m probably going to be sore for a couple of days. Darn ice!

Before my nasty fall, however, I did catch a few neat pictures of the animals outside my apartment. The ducks, geese, and swans are still here for some reason! I walked right up to them and they immediately started quacking and moving towards me, but unfortunately I had no food to give them. Just a camera to suspend them in time:

Work has been a lot of fun. I’ve noticed that working in heels isn’t so bad. I mean, I’ve worked in heels as a teacher, but with that job, I’ve had many chances to sit down. Not at this job… the only appropriate time to sit is during my break, and lately I’ve been wandering out into the mall and spending a dollar to get an electronic chair massage, which really really helps! If only those chairs had prepaid gift cards, I would definitely invest in one!!

We also finally got some snow yesterday, and I’m hoping it stays so that Ann Arbor drivers get used to it. The last thing I need right now is a car accident…. it looks really pretty outside. I’m really starting to see my apartment as a home, not just a place where I live… I’m still feeling confused about the future, but I’m happy about living in the moment…I’m not worried. I may have my moments, but I’m living in the present and enjoying what I’m given. I’m living off the land. I’m working towards making my dreams a reality. Life may be moving slowly, but that’s exactly what I need, and I’m taking this time to breathe it in.

I forgot… my brother had a birthday over a week ago. Alice, Lee and I all went out to Bennigan’s to celebrate. He forgot to tell the waitress that it was his birthday, so he missed out on the free dessert – but Alice and I picked up the tab, so it didn’t matter.
