Gym Workouts & Music correspondence

I think I’ve finally found my groove when it comes to working out. When it comes to time of day for working out, I prefer late in the morning or late in the afternoon. Lately, it’s been late in the morning, and it’s so nice to be able to work out when it’s bright outside. Late in the afternoon works well for me too, because it’s right before dinner, and I seem to have a lot of energy right before dinner… so instead of overeating and ruining my dinner, I’d rather exercise! However, I’ve noticed in the last couple of days, some interesting gym-goers. For instance, the other day I went to the gym, and there were three other people there at the time, probably the most I ever usually see *a little background on the gym that I go to – it’s connected to my apartment’s clubhouse, free to all apartment renters, and also, extremely tiny. Three treadmills, three ellipticals, two stationary bikes, and a handful of resistance machines. I love it because it reminds me of the gym I go to at home, but because of it’s size, it is never busy.* Anyway, as I start my treadmill routine, I realize that all three of these people are perfect strangers, but have all started a conversation with one another about what was on the television… The Biggest Loser. Turns out, these were all people determined to start their New Year’s resolutions right, and watching The Biggest Loser was their inspiration. I found this so fasinating because I’ve never had any friends that have ever needed this as a New Year’s resolution. Strike that… I had one friend several years ago who was my workout buddy for an entire summer. But that was a LONG time ago. It was nice to see, and also made me feel that I wasn’t alone in my endeavors.

Today, I also decided to get off my mental bum and start some correspondence between myself and some clients. I usually take this time of year to stay in touch with summer wedding clients: ask how their holidays were, and then see if they need any help choosing wedding music. Most of the time, they don’t need the help. But it’s an extra effort on my part to keep communications open, especially when most of these weddings were booked a year in advance! So most likely I won’t be getting any playlists, but I will most likely get a cordial response, which is all I want at this point really. Unless, that is, they have their playlist chosen, in which case, all the better for all of us!

Other than the usual wedding music business, I’ve found a tiny, yet, existing, space for myself in the performance arena. I’m gaining much more performance publicity in my hometown, which is very important. It will only help further my performing career, and acts as sort of a push for me to practice harder and more substantial materials. Such as an upcoming summer performance I will be doing, all between flute & guitar. I have so much flute & guitar music that I haven’t had a chance to perform, so I’m really excited about it! I can’t wait.
