Auditions & Candymaking

There is SO much going on all at once right now, it’s crazy! In my personal life and in my professional life. It’s not bad, it’s just… so much to think about!

I just found out today that the Midland Symphony Orch. is holding auditions for their second flute player on Sept. 19…. that’s 19 days away!! Holy moly! That is a short amount of time to know about an amazing opportunity to be able to play full time with a group that I’ve been subbing with for years now.

But I am still going to audition, and I am going to practice my hardest and work at it to the best of my ability, and you know what? No matter what the outcome, I will be proud of myself for doing this. I honestly would be really bummed if I didn’t win the seat, but, I still have to be realistic about this. Auditions are competitive! But there’s more to an audition than just winning it… it’s also a great way to network with other flutists, with people in the orchestra… and also a way for me to show the orchestra my skills as a substitute flutist, so that they continue to KEEP me as one! If anything, that should be my main goal. Although it would be absolutely fabulous to win this position, there are also so many other things that I’d like to work on in my music career, which may mean a change in location…. so you never know!

At the fudge shops, it’s been really slow. I’ve been doing my best to stay busy, but if you’ve done everything, what can you do? I mean, the fudge sample dance isn’t always a reliable source of bringing in customers 😛 so if everything is folded/cleaned/mopped/organized/packaged, I really don’t know what else to do except… pull out the Victoria’s Secret catalogs. I know I know, it’s so unprofessional to read at work, but, to hell with it.

I’m also learning more of the candymaker responsibilities, which I’m really excited about. I’ve learned how to temper chocolate, and make peanut brittle and the center of english toffee. Hopefully I’ll get to learn more about the small candies, because that’s what I’m most interested in.

On a last note… for those of you who don’t know, I’m a Guitar Hero/Rock Band addict 🙂 I LOVE the game! And I haven’t been able to play it for months because I’m so far away from my friends who own it (and I really don’t want to pay for one myself). Well, I was in the Petoskey Walmart on my day off, and guess what I noticed was in their arcade room? A Guitar Hero machine!!!! I immediately jumped on it and rocked out to “Jukebox Hero.” I now hold the highest score 😀
