The Final Weeks

There are about 3 more weeks in the month to go before we close. One more week before we cut down to the final fudge crew. Two more weeks before the Mackinac Island Halloween extravaganza. Three more weeks until I move back downstate and start another winter trying to figure out how to make a living being a performer.

Work has been slow, but okay. I’m still working with the guys on and off, while trying to subtly hint to them about coming back next year. I think it’s worked, but one should never stop the subtleties whilst being subtle. And every so often I find it difficult working with my family, but it’s not unlike anything I haven’t already experienced with them. I mean it’s the end of the season, but that doesn’t mean that I shouldn’t do my job the way it should be done. I mean, it’s one thing to work with your family, and it’s another thing to take advantage of the family you’re working with. It doesn’t matter who it is, it’s your job, and you should always treat it like any other job at any other business. Take responsibility for yourself. That’s my two cents and I’m leaving it at that.

I also played my last two weddings of the season yesterday! It was an important day, because it was the first time that I had gotten two weddings on the same day. And what a day! It was freezing AND extremely windy, and eventually it also started to rain. BOTH weddings were supposed to be outdoors – but BOTH got moved to their back-up (indoor) locations, which made me so happy! Plus, I got to play in Mission Church which has such strong acoustics it’s like a flutist’s heaven, haha. 🙂 I bet it would be fun to play a concert in there.
